Immediate Supervisor: Editor in Chief – Green Horizon

General responsibilities

The Editor assists the Editor in Chief in handling the editorial operations of the REC’s quarterly magazine and related publications / electronic newsletters. S/he is responsible for the editorial quality and performance of the magazine. S/he performs day-to-day writing and editing tasks. S/he closely cooperates with the graphic designer and the webmaster in the layout and presentation of the content. S/he maintains a good understanding of readers’ needs, REC’s missions and operations, and contributes to Green Horizon’s goals.

As Project Officer he/she is partially responsible for the successful operation Green Horizon in a timely and cost-efficient manner. S/he supports in all possible ways the activities of Green Horizon.

Experience and skill level required

  • Excellent communications, writing and editing skills in English (knowledge of CEE languages is an asset);
  • At least three years of related professional experience (environmental journalism/editing);
  • Solid English-language writing and copy-editing skills;
  • Understanding of environmental issues of the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region, strong news judgment;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to handle sources and interviews;
  • Knowledge of personal computers and relevant software applications for word processing;
  • At least basic layout, publishing, and/or web-posting skills; and
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and be a team player.

Education:

Degree in journalism; mass media or communications; publishing; social sciences or any related fields.

This full-time position will be based at the REC’s head office in Szentendre, Hungary (20 km north of Budapest).
