Photo contest: inspirational women

Have your picture featured in this year’s State of the World’s Children

With the money Hasmuna earns taking pictures she hopes to be able to continue her education. This year’s State of the World’s Children will argue that one of the most powerful constraints to fulfilling children’s rights and achieving the Millennium Development Goals is the discrimination experienced by women. The Report will make two key points: 1. That there is a form of double discrimination at work: societies that discriminate against women are also discriminating against children. 2. That when women are empowered to make decisions, they are better able to fulfill their own rights, and to support those of children. To help us express how important women are for the well being of children we would like you to send us a picture of a woman in your life -- a mother, a sister, a teacher, a friend -- who has been a particularly powerful source of inspiration and support. The photos should include a 250-word explanation of who the woman is and how she has inspired you. Please also include your name, age, postal address and email address if possible. We will accept submissions to voy@unicef.org  or Voices of Youth, Room 1004, 3 UN Plaza, New York City, NY 10017 until Friday 8 September 2006.
