Organised by the Doc Next Network and supported by the Open Society Foundations, this exciting video competition is calling on media makers, social activists and critical thinkers of any age to submit a (max 5 min) video of any genre that expresses their vision of a "radical democracy" in Europe. Applicants are encouraged to make a new work but videos made in the last two years will be legible. All the information, including entry guidelines, may be found at challenge.docnextnetwork.org.
With the aim to instigate a debate and discover 'radical' stories about what is, and what ought to be happening in Europe, submitted videos should challenge the prevailing notions of democracy and representation, reflect on alternatives, and create new narratives for an open society. Questions that can be explored are for example:
-- How are ordinary people reclaiming public space, demanding transparency
and social justice?
-- How are people sharing the experience of a new sense of community and
citizenship?
-- How can we create a more open and inclusive Europe?
-- What should change in our societies?
The deadline for submissions on April 13th, 2014, submitted works will be legible to win a total of 10 awards: 5x EURO 2500 for Winners and 5x EURO 1000 for Special Mention. Chosen by online audiences and a professional jury, the winning entries will be awarded during the Planete+Doc Film Festival in Warsaw, Poland, on the 16th of May 2014.
