Open Society Institute - Romani Women's Empowerment The Open Society Institute is running a Romani women's empowerment grants initiative under the Decade of Roma Inclusion. This initiative aims at achieving gender equality both through empowering Romani women to be able to take part in all processes and through mainstreaming Romani women's concerns within policies and practices. The Decade of Roma Inclusion 2005-2015 is an initiative supported by the Open Society Institute and the World Bank with the aim to combat discrimination and ensure that Roma have equal access to education, housing, employment and health care with an integrated approach to gender and discrimination. Launched in February 2005 and endorsed by nine Central and Eastern European countries, the Decade of Roma Inclusion is also supported by the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the Council of Europe Development Bank, the United Nations Development Program, and the Office for Security and Cooperation in Europe. The grants are open to Roma NGOs, especially Romani women's NGOs within the Decade of Roma Inclusion countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Spain.
